Coaching

The Driving Coaching program was started in 1993 and subsequently modified to meet the Competency Based Education Training standard in 2001. Formal approval for the new program was given by Equine Canada Sport Council in February, 2002. The foundation is the "Learn to Drive" manual that was the result of collaborative efforts of current Coaches and Evaluators, educators and assistance from Equine Canada.

With the move toward Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) standar initiated by the Coaching Association of Canada and ongoing modifications to the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP), the current program is being revised with respect to certifications for new Coaches and the evaluation process.

There are two streams: Instructor - for those wishing to teach recreational driving, and Coach which focuses on competition.
In addition to the "Learn to Drive" manual for students, the program has a number of other publications - the "Coach's Guide" for teaching the Learn to Drive; and workbooks for preparing the Coach/Instructor "Coach's Resource Book"  consisting of basic teaching skills, communication, lesson planning, and safety; and the "Stable Management Workbook" to assist in learning basic knowledge requirements for certiication.

Downloadable documents include: "Coaches" a listing and contacts for all current Coaches; and "Application" for information, requirements and an application form.
